Aremshah: Appearance and Physiology

I’m going to start writing about the Djinnborn world, races, and cultures again and keep to a regular schedule. I will keep some sort of illustration attached to each post so you all can see what I see. This will help me compose the visual bible I’ve been planning to work on. Most of these articles will be stored on the DjinnWiki, which I will link here once I get a few more changes made to the site.

I am also going to replace the current look of the site with a design that is much simpler and better-coded for the time being. This will last until I am finished with the webcomic’s official design.

People that have followed this blog so far may see some things restated from earlier and much older entries. Hopefully, I can provide enough new content and pictures to keep you all interested!

Now, without further ado, I present to you the treatise on Aremites’ Appearance and Physiology!

Warning: Several drawings after the jump are NSFW due to nudity. There is no explicit sexual content, just figure studies. The NSFW pictures are kept to thumbnail size on the post — you cannot see the full size unless you click on them. Please use your own discretion when viewing the gallery at the end of this post.

The above picture has genitals edited out so that all you see is “Ken dolls.”

The Djinnborn comic itself will not feature much, if any frontal nudity. At present, I’m going for a “primetime-allowed” rating — that is, the type of content seen on most primetime TV programs may show up in the comic. I have no plans to go into R-rated territory with my story and script. These figure studies are just that. So you need not worry about explicit images. As with this post, any further posts that have NSFW images will be marked before the jump.

Basic Features

Aremite coloration sets them apart, like color does for all Djinnborn races. Their skin is blue and their hair is very light, usually white. Aremite skin tones range from the bright azure of a clear sky to a light indigo of evening. Men tend to have slightly darker skin than women, on average. Some Aremites have slightly purple-tinted skin, but none cross into the green side of blue.

Their hair is usually silver, light gray, or bright white. Some Aremites’ hair has a faint blue or gold tint. A few have darker gray hair, like the shadowy side of a cloud. Their eyes are dark, usually gray or blue-gray. Some have dark blue eyes, and several have dark purple or dark gold.

Aremite hair naturally grows to look perpetually tousled. Short of using special Musian hair treatments, no amount of brushing and combing can keep the Aremite’s hair from looking even a little windswept. The Aremites embrace this look, taking a delight in the mildly chaotic appearance. Men keep their hair short, usually never long enough to get in their eyes. Women usually let their hair grow very long, but Aremite fashion demands they leave it loose and flowing.

Aremite facial features tend to be rounder and their eyes larger than other Djinnborn.  They typically age more gracefully than other races, looking young well into their 40s or 50s. This slower aging combined with their softer features and wide eyes makes them seem much younger than they really are. It is not uncommon for a 40-year-old Aremite to be mistaken by other Djinnborn as a 20-year-old.

Below are a few stats to show where Aremites stand in relation to other Djinnborn races.

Aremites are the fourth slightest race in terms of build, physique, and physical strength, bigger only than the Takhari. Their softer features also manifest in their musculature, making them leaner than Krekonians, Musian men, and even Ropoldi. Aremite men do develop broader shoulders as they reach adulthood, but they become nowhere near as broad or deep-chested as a Krekonian. Those men that do build musculature tend to develop a more aerodynamic look. Even the strongest of Aremite men looks slender compared to a Krekonian or Musian man. Definition tends to remain softer, too. For example, it is rare to see an Aremite man with six-pack abs.

Women tend to be slighter than other Djinnborn females, too, though not noticeably so. Their physiques are not as elegant as Musians, nor as hardened as Krekonians or Ropoldi. They are bigger than Takhari, and thus can be comfortably considered “average.” Aremite women tend not to have breasts that are particularly large or small, and their body shape, while svelte, does not always follow the hourglass flow as well as a Musian woman’s figure.

Aremite men are the third tallest race, at about 5’6″-5’11″ (167-180 cm.) on average. Krekonian and Ropoldi men are taller; Musian and Takhari men are shorter. Aremite women are the fourth tallest, ahead of Takhari women, and average an inch or two shorter than men.

Their lighter builds make them more nimble than other races. While the Takhari tend to be more acrobatic, Aremites tend to be faster on foot. Their bodies are well-suited for moving quickly over both long and short distances. This speed reflects in many aspects of their lives and cultures: wider streets, more open interiors, faster and more mobile skyships and land vehicles, a military formed of many light infantry units. The average Aremite walking speed is faster than most other races, even the very tall Musian women.

Aremites tend to stay skinny during youth and adolescence. However, all Aremites, especially men, are more prone to becoming overweight than other Djinnborn as they get older. Most Aremites, if they hit this phase, reach it between the ages of 40 and 50. Some, especially more athletic Aremites, never reach this period of life, or are able to stave off the significant weight gain longer. Being overweight is considered one of the most recognizable signs of Aremite aging.

Here is a gallery of pictures that depict some typical Aremite figures. Included are group drawings of five women and five men, as well as individual pictures of each model. The characters are naked, so please use your discretion when enlarging.

Coming Next

The next content posts will describe Aremite fashions. I’ll start with male fashions and move on to female fashions. I probably won’t have the art completed by Friday, but I will provide some sketches and general design thoughts to go with Friday’s post. Here’s what you can expect in the next major content post:

  • Discussion of my design ideas and themes.
  • A look at certain symbolic or culturally important parts of dress
  • Overview of color preferences and sample color schemes
  • Possibly more!
After the fashion segment, we’ll move into things like architecture and so on until I run out of things to draw and move on to the next race!
Also, if time allows, I will hopefully have a modestly redesigned website on Friday. It won’t be the final design, but it will be something a little more Djinnborn and a little less frosty.
